Humanistic Judaism embraces a human-centered philosophy that combines rational thinking with a celebration of Jewish culture and identity. Humanistic Jews value their Jewish identity and the aspect of Jewish culture that offers a genuine expression of their contemporary way of life. Humanistic Jewish communities celebrate Jewish holidays and life cycle events with inspirational ceremonies that draw upon but go beyond traditional literature. Humanistic Judaism affirms that human beings possess the power and responsibility to shape their own lives and that ethics and morality are not divine in origin but are human responsibilities.
The Sarasota Congregation
Our Congregation has services on a regular basis, often with a dynamic speaker on today's issues. Visit our Events Calendar for more details. We offer study groups (films, books, music, bible, wine), social action activities and social events for our members. We celebrate the High Holidays and Passover as well as other traditional Jewish festivals and holidays. Our group was founded in 1996 and we now have over 325 members. We welcome all people in the Bradenton, Sarasota, Venice area and beyond who feel they want to share a Humanistic Jewish way of life within a warm, friendly congregation. We are recognized by and affiliated with the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation. We are also members of the Synagogue Council.
